Arizona PT/PTA Students

Can students practice in a clinical setting?

Students in a professional education program approved by the board who is satisfying supervised clinical education requirements related to the person’s physical therapist or physical therapist assistant education may practice while under the on-site supervision of a physical therapist.

What kind of supervision is required for student PTs and PTAs?

On-site supervision of a physical therapist.

"On-site supervision" means that the supervising physical therapist is on site and is present in the facility or on the campus where assistive personnel or a holder of an interim permit is performing services, is immediately available to assist the person being supervised in the services being performed and maintains continued involvement in appropriate aspects of each treatment session in which a component of treatment is delegated.

Co-Signature requirements

If an individual other than a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant makes an entry into the patient record, the supervising physical therapist co-signs the entry;

How must students identify themselves?

Students should be identified as either “PT Student” or “PTA Student”.
