Alaska Medicaid Outpatient Speech Therapy

Provider Participation

See SLP and SLPA Enrollment for information on eligible providers and supervision of assistants.

Speech Therapy Services

Alaska Medicaid will pay for covered speech-language pathology services when provided by an enrolled SLP or SLPA.

Order

Speech-language pathology services, with the exception of an initial evaluation, must be prescribed by a physician, advanced nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

Documentation

See the Alaska Medicaid Evaluations and Treatment Plans for more documentation requirements. 

The SLP or SLPA must keep appropriately documented progress notes, including start and stop times for time-based treatment. 

Service Limitations

Alaska Medicaid limits reimbursement for speech, language, voice, communication, and/or auditory processing disorder group therapy to one (1) unit per date of service.

Alaska Medicaid does not reimburse for services provided by aides, interns, and other non-licensed/non-registered individuals.
