Michigan Physical Therapy Supervision Definitions 

Direct Supervision - The PT is physically present and immediately available for direction and supervision when patients or clients are present when the act, task, or function is performed, and that the PT has direct contact with the patient or client during each visit.

General Supervision - The PT is not required to be physically present on site but must be continuously available at the time the procedure is performed. Continuously available includes availability by telecommunication or other electronic device.

Physical Therapist Assistant - An individual with a health profession subfield license under who assists a PT in physical therapy intervention.

Practice as Physical Therapist Assistant - The practice of physical therapy performed under the supervision of a licensed PT.
